About Cashmereloom

Our cashmere is sourced from the Plateaus of Asia. The plateaus of Mongolia and Tibet have a bitter and harsh climate, with severe winters that are long and cold. The mountain goats of this region protect themselves from sub-zero temperatures by growing very fine hair. The specialty animal hair fibers are collected during molting seasons when the animals naturally shed their hairs. Cashmere of the highest quality is produced by brushing this extremely fine hair from the body of the mountain goats, during the molting (shedding) season which occurs during a several-week period in spring. The down is removed by hand with a comb from the fine, soft undercoat or under layer of hair, of the goat, each goat yielding up to one pound of fiber. The fiber is extremely warm, protecting the goats from cold mountain temperatures, and further contributing to the weaving of our fine, luxurious and extremely warm cashmere products.
